Grace Lai

Dr. Grace Lai is from Taipei, Taiwan and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in National Chung-Hsing University. Upon graduation, she worked in a referral clinic in Taipei whereas she developed strong interests in orthopedics. She thereafter obtained a certification in Total Hip Replacement and decided to move to the US to pursue advanced education. She went on to complete her clinical year at University of Illinois; a rotating internship in VCA Veterinary Referral Associates, Maryland. In addition, she finished a surgical research fellowship in Michigan State University focusing on canine upper airway diseases. She conducted and organized a large, cross-sectional, multi-center clinical study on a special laryngeal disease in Norwich terriers in the North America. After that, Dr. Lai moved to the University of Georgia for small animal surgery residency. In the three years of residency, Dr. Lai gained valuable experience in a broad range of complex surgical procedures. She is now a Board-certified specialist by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and an adjunct professor in Small Animal Surgery of City University of Hong Kong.


Dr. Lai’s special interests include fracture repairs, bone biomechanics, cardiothoracic procedures, and laryngeal diseases. On top of those, she loves everything about cats and old dogs. She has a tabby cat named Possum, which is very sassy but lovely. Being a mother of two, Dr. Lai has learned to cultivate humor in everyday life in order to manage yet enjoy the hectic days with her son and her newborn baby girl.
